Let me correct that oversight now.
The pumpkin painting winners were Lee Strobridge and Rosemarie Howard in a team effort described as "Happy Mouse". It was cute, wasn't it? I'll have to take your word.
The scarecrow contest was won by Chris & Kathy Head for their creation "Mouse In Your Pocket." That one I saw as it was being carted back to their truck.
Lisa & Linda Perguson had the only entry for the decorating contest for things that weren't pumpkins or scarecrows. I still have no idea what we had in mind for that category, but I'm glad they thought of something that they called "You Can't Scare Me!"
Now back to those hay bales. We tried team hay bale rolling where the team of Jim Hrit & Jerry Griffin edged out the team of Scott Williams & Don Wigent by less than a second. Jerry enjoyed the Michigan October sun enough to team up with Mike Oehmen and go again, finishing with the 3rd best time.
Next, we tried to injure as many of us as possible by tossing those same hay bales. After it was beaten into me that equality between the sexes is not necessary when raffle tickets are involved, we had separate contests for men & women. Scott Williams surpassed what seemed to be an unbeatable distance by Chris Head. Nice toss. Janean Marinko and Patty Lymburner tied for first in the women's category. A number of team efforts were attempted as well with Jim Hrit/Jerry Griffin(again) and Beth Pennington/Lu Formosa having the best results. My own toss had the distinction of being the only one to bounce backwards. I think I'll stick to juggling smaller objects.
Watermelon seed spitting for distance: Geoff Lee took the Big Blowhard award and Ramona Walter held off the other ladies. She told me she had to call her husband - he would be so proud!
We were running late for the auction, but we squeezed in a couple remote control mouse car races. Chris Head edged out Dirty Goffe by a fraction of a second on a hay bale oval course. No cars were destroyed this year despite our best intentions.
Karen Rutledge - if you've made it all the way through this, we'd like to know the results of the morning exhibits where the real talent was displayed. That's another area I didn't get to see much of.
We had fun seeing all of you and missed those that couldn't make it this year. And we're glad to be back in California where it's cool and rainy like October's supposed to be. I'm not sure we can call it FTF without at least a couple snowflakes. Just looking for any excuse to stay indoors!
See ya next year!
We had a number of requests to identify the contest winners from the Saturday afternoon activities at FTF. We assure you, we made sure the winners received their raffle tickets - honest, we did!
Only a shortage of group sit down time (and leaving the results back in the hotel room) prevented a public announcement of the winners.
As usual, we had a number of really great entries in the pumpkin & scarecrow decorating contests. I was almost able to actually see a couple of them out of the corner of my eye when I wasn't retrieving footballs and beanbags and hay bales and ... well, you get the idea. Therefore, let me thank the morning exhibit judges that extended their duties to the afternoon to choose the winners of those two contests.
